While working on this assignment I had to really try to
focus on my thesis statement and find the right sources to open my eyes to
different viewpoints or arguments. My
strong points lie in my understanding and knowledge of the movie. It is definitely one of my favorite movies so I
knew when I was first told about the assignment what I wanted to do it on. In my paper it was easy to focus on the
obvious parts religion played in the movie.
The brothers were clearly very religious and it was easy to see how
their faith was the reason that they did go out on their killing quest. I knew specific scenes of the movie that I
wanted to use to help prove my main arguments.
I could have worked more on researching different points and then
focusing on more solid points. There
were so many different views and tangents to go off on so it was hard to stay
on one specific point that I was trying to make. I always either felt like I was talking about
too broad of a topic or going off in too many direction in one. My argument is definitely lacking in the more
support for the thesis. In all honestly
this first draft was very rushed and my mind was all over the place. I also could have spent more time looking into
the sources I was using. I had time to
browse and take some good notes, but divulging myself more into the journal
articles and textbooks definitely would have helped me solidify my arguments
and thesis. The large textbooks also had
a lot of information in them therefore it was impossible to read the entire
thing in time and find the right points I wanted to use in my arguments. Another problem I ran across was finding
other types of arguments that still related to my movie and partially related
to my thesis that I wanted to use, but would sound too much like tangents. Despite these facts I was very confident in
my argument. I had my argument thought
up before I even found my sources so I knew I was only using them to support my
ideas. I found good quotes but tried to
focus more on the main ideas of my sources and paraphrase our use my own voice
to describe their main ideas.
