Our Future

In today’s society, it is becoming increasingly obvious that there is a problem. We are using up our resources and damaging the environment, when there are ways to stop the current cycle. In the videos “Using Nature’s Genius in Architecture” and “The Route to a Sustainable Future,” they discuss the possible ways to help our society become self-sustaining. Developments in self-sustaining activities will help to decrease our use of fossil fuels, which will enable life to remain longer than if all of the fossil fuels have been completely depleted.
In the videos, both talk about ways to make life more self-sustaining with the use of nature. These might help our society to get better at not wasting fossil fuels or adding pollution, and will really make a difference. If we take more notes from things in nature, like the spider and the beetle, than we might be more productive and self-conscience about what we’re doing, instead of just continuing to destroy our planet. These developments will contribute to products that are being produced that normally damage the environment like anything that has a spray container, buildings that are being constructed and really anything that people are producing. With construction, many of the materials burn fuel which pollutes the air, but if there were more products that recycled materials or were more economic friendly, like the spider when it produces its silk. If our society could be more self-sustaining and productive like the spider is, then there would be fewer damages to our planet.
Consumerism and stability can go hand in hand with one another because if there were more self-sustaining products out there, more people would consume them. The few products that are sustainable are very expensive; so not that many people are going to spend the money to buy them. If there were more sustainable products, then the price would go down and consumerism would increase. Likewise, if more people were to start buying sustainable products, then there would be a demand for them and more products would start being made.
A product that would help society be more sustainable would be a generator that relies on solar energy rather than fuel or electricity. Those kinds pollute the air; mine would rely on solar energy and cause less damage while still powering the things that we use in our daily lives. This would help companies power their businesses or create other things that damage the environment more sustaining and clean, instead of causing more pollution.
