While writing this research paper, it was difficult for me
to start thinking of ideas and how I would go about writing it. I originally
was going to write about how women have evolved into advancing in their careers
and not being confined to staying at home, but that would have turned into more
of a history of women. So, in order to not have a history of women, I decided
to write about more men staying home and women working, using the movie Daddy Day Care. Although I had a new
topic, I still couldn’t think of a way to start it off, or how to start finding
research. I put off researching for a while, so it was more difficult to find 5
sources when I needed to. Also, I wanted to find reasons why more men were
staying home, does it affect kids and the stigmas against them, but I couldn’t find
really anything on effects of children. However, I eventually found my sources
and research and it was easier to think about how I would write the paper. What
was also hard though was starting my paper and integrating my sources. It was
easy to talk about background information on the movie and set the scene up,
but having my ideas flow and make sense was an issue. I wanted to talk about
the reasons why men were staying home and the stigmas against it, making them a
deterrent for men to chose to stay home.
My strong points in my paper were describing the economic
reasons why men are staying home. I went into more detail about the recession
playing a bigger role in the reasons for men to stay home, which I think makes
a direct relation to Daddy Day Care.
My other strong point was when I was talking about the nontraditional family
role and the positives about more men staying home. However, I had some
negatives in it; I wish I would’ve gone more into details about the negatives
in men staying home and the stigmas against them. I feel like I repeated myself
too much about the positives and reasons for men staying home. I wanted to go
more into stigmas because I had a lot of research on that which went to waste,
but I didn’t want to drag the paper on, so I wanted to end it. Overall, with
revisions, I think the negatives will fix themselves, and my analysis was
strong so the paper will improve.
