In my research paper, I discussed
how Disney princess movies are affecting our young girls in a negative way by
displaying the role of women and relationships poorly. I do agree with this,
especially after reading different articles about this topic. However, I do not
think it is so significant that we should have young girls stop watching these
Disney movies. I think that is one problem with my paper. Due to my lack of
conviction, my attitude against these Disney princess movies is not strong
enough. If it were stronger, my argument would be more convincing.
Despite this though, the articles
and books that I reference in my paper do contribute to a stronger argument. As
different people have analyzed and torn apart these princesses and how the
movies portray them, it is easy to see them in a new light, and it makes you
think. Therefore, I do rely on my sources a good bit. Without them, it would be
easy for people to dismiss the facts whether intentional or not by Disney
producers. However, I am confident that I could argue my point without the
sources and make a clear point, but the sources are more reliable than I am.
Also, having multiple voices to support my point that Disney princess movies
affect young girls negatively makes it harder for others to deny that this is a
possibility.
Some weaknesses of my paper were
that my sentences did not flow well, a couple of concepts were repeated in
multiple paragraphs, and I did not include the most recent Disney princesses. I
had a hard time getting my sentences to flow because I was not quite sure how I
wanted to word what I was trying to say and because I was trying to make my
point come across really strong but that flopped in my opinion in certain
paragraphs. It was almost as if I was trying too hard that it just came off
sounding ridiculous. The reason I repeated some of the points in multiple
paragraphs was because they applied there, but I do not like repetition in
papers. Therefore, I did not like that aspect of my paper. I did not include
the most recent Disney princesses because they do not have many commentaries
out yet to see them torn apart and critiqued but also because I have not seen
any of them, and I felt that was unfair to use them if I could not say I have
actually seen them. However, including them could have helped with a
counterargument because from what I understand, the female leads are portrayed
as stronger characters.
