The Future

The future of the world begins with making the world more sustainable to live, as stated in the Ted Talks videos by Alex Steffen, and Michael Pawlyn, we need to find an alternative way to conserve resources and make our world a better place. They both talked about how the prosperity of the world has now caused flaws and is possibly lessening the life span of the world. The question that we should all consider is, how can we make the world sustainable and elongate the “life span” of the earth? All these different approaches and developments can contribute to improving the economic stand point and also protect the environment. With a growing economy, the most important thing is to be able to find a balance between the wants of the people and the protection of the environment. The only problem that may hinder our society is that the actual people in the society or the ones able to implement the plan may believe that this solution is too far out of our reach. Some may believe it is too hard to completely change society around now and use the solutions from nature.

            Consumerism and sustainability connect in the sense of our future. It seems to be the more people consume and “the more stuff that goes through our life” helps to lessen the sustainability of the future. When people consume things, once they dispose of the item majority of the time the specific item is not used for the good of the next. So inadvertently consumerism has a bad effect on sustainability. Consumerism could have a better more positive effect on sustainability if the items we consumed, could be helpful and cause no harm to the environment. This relates back to the statement made by Michael Pawlyn, in which he states “people extract resources and then turn them into short life products and dispose of them, while in nature, the waste of one organism becomes the nutrients for the next”.

           An object that can help create a more sustainable life for all generations can be a solar disk that you can place your technology on in order to charge them. If solar chargers are not already out I am sure this is will be something to consider. Using too much energy is something that is holding us back from having a sustainable future so to fix this problem; solar chargers can make it so that less energy is used.
