How Will Future Generations Live?

The Earth cannot sustain its current pace for the rest of eternity. The way humans are living now has to change or new inventions have to make this life sustainable for the environment. This is why new strategies are designed to accommodate this. The earth is dominated by humans, but there are still many types of animals that exist just as abundantly as they did hundreds of years ago. The reason many of these still exist in such numbers is because they have abilities that humans do not have. Currently many of the new “technology” talked about is things such as iPads, smart phones, and military equipment. These things are personal devises people own, but possibly the most important technology is bio-technology. This is a problem in today’s society. People care more about their own personal belongings and what the technology can do for them, not the earth as a whole. These high tech devices might help them more, but they do not benefit the many people in poverty and the bio-technology could benefit people suffering from poverty or lack of nutrients worldwide.
People on earth do not realize the monumental effects they have on the environment. Kids are not taught about what harm their actions could do to the environment and many do not know the dangers that the earth faces for their possible future or their kids or grandkids. This brilliant idea to make games to teach them about this is an enormous step in the right direction. Most of the games kids play now-a-days is about killing people, sports, or racing cars. These games do not teach them much about the world around them and are probably a negative influence on them as children. Ideas build off of each other so if each kid plays these games and learns how to make the world more environmentally friendly, they will tell one friend who will tell another and hopefully encompass the whole world with this knowledge.
Consumerism might be the downfall of society and its ability to sustain the world we currently live in. Consumerism as it is today teaches about how to do everything for yourself and how to do whatever benefits you. This is the opposite of sustainability because people need to learn about how their actions can affect the environment and how they need to think about the many others that this will affect. Consumerism has made the current generations less knowledgeable about sustainability and could be the downfall of environmental awareness.
My object that is sustainable is a man-made river that has many ways to collect the energy from the flowing water. It would be built off of a lake on a downslope and could house many types of fish such as trout. The trout could be used as a way to make money to build more of these and make more energy creating rivers to then take away some of the fossil fuels being used in today’s society. There are many ways that us as a society could help enlighten our peers about environmental sustainability and help make this earth a better place.
