Over the past two weeks, I've noticed a string of posts which seek to validate arguments by relying on the affirmative "I believe" statement, as in, "I believe that this means this..." or something along those lines. In at least 400 words take this brief phrase apart. What does it means when we say "I believe" in an argumentative sense? Why do you think we do this? What does a belief in one thing or another do for an argument or for the individual who is arguing? Is it a positive or negative addition to an argument? Why or why not?
In addition to these questions, think critically about what it is that you are a believer in, not necessarily in a religious sense, but generally what is at stake for you in your life? What is your "so what"? What is your life argument?
