In an argument there are two or more sides that are fighting
to prove a fight and potentially even win over another side, or get more people
to see their point of view. Every side
of an argument has their own beliefs that they feel are true. As humans we have these beliefs or feelings
because of our senses and emotions. As
we learn we create new beliefs or change old ones. Our family, friends, teachers, and culture
all have a big effect on our socialization.
Beliefs are a personal, yet common thing. Every individual has their own beliefs, and
at the same time many other people may also feel that same belief. When posing an argument or defending a side
people often state their beliefs as a point of evidence and support for their
side. This is why many people start off
a statement with “I believe”. A belief
can be as widespread as something that is taught in school systems, to a dream
for the future. Starting a statement with
a personal belief also allows the speaker to talk more about how specifically
feel rather than a larger majority. They
can add in certain details that other people may perhaps not have thought
of. Often times when a speaker states
their belief they may attract other listeners who also feel the same way, or
open the eyes of listeners to new ideas.
This is why people often state their beliefs during an argument, to win
over more people and get more support for their side. In this way a belief can be very beneficial
towards an argument, however it can be a negative addition just as easily. Some people may not have the same beliefs as
the speaker, and therefore may not take their side of the argument. In addition, some people also add in very
strong beliefs about very controversial subjects, such as religion or politics,
which in that case can have a very negative effect. In such hot topics such as politics and
religion there are a very wide range of beliefs and views so it’s much easier
to disagree with someone than it is to agree with them. My life argument is to believe in knowledge
and logic above all else. People often
times get too caught up in their own beliefs and things that are divine, that
often times they don’t think about the full repercussions of their
actions. Every war that has ever been
fought started from a clash in beliefs.
If people just accepted each other there could be peace.
