Embracing the 21st Century

The face of humanity has definitely changed. I feel like experiments like these have made humanity more central, however and not the other way around. They show what we all share as humans, like the airplane map and the Johnny Cash music video. The airplane map was really fascinating, and it really makes your imagination run wild. I wonder about the millions of different people on those millions of different planes. Where are they going? Why are they going there? What kind of like experiences have they had? It’s eerie and amazing to think that I probably know some people who were on those planes, and some are probably very similar to me, since humanity is so universal. It’s experiments like these that make you realize that fact more and more, humanity is everyone. No matter where on earth, no matter how young or old, no matter what ethnicity, the human condition remains unchanged through time. These interfaces make you realize that. With the Johnny Cash music video, people from all over the world contributed to it. They contributed because they had all been impacted by his life and/or music. People all over the world from different cultures and backgrounds were influenced by the same artist, and this brought them together for the project. As humans, we have so much more in common with each other than we think, and we have more in common than differences, I believe. A lot of different things try to tell us otherwise but if you look inside yourself I believe you see what everyone else sees as well. The human condition is absolutely universal, it’s heartbreaking at times and it’s joyful at times but all the time it’s universal.

It’s really amazing how he pulls specimens from so many different people and puts them together to make something beautiful. You would think something like that would just result in an unintelligible jumble, but it turns out beautifully synchronized and orderly. I think this shows how similar we all are, merely as humans. We all work well together because deep down we’re all very similar, and I’m going to be bold and say we probably all want similar things out of life. It’s kind of like the sheep experiment, everyone had their own unique style of drawing the sheep but they could not escape the fact that they were all sheep. How we look at humanity has changed drastically with technology, and I think it has made us more aware of our universal humanity and its importance.
