This video was Aaron Koblin explaining how he believed
interfaces were going to dominate the 21st century. He believed that
novels dominated the 19th century, movies dominated the 20th,
and now it was interfaces time to take over. I have to agree that interfaces
are becoming huge in our society. With the latest technology, they can make
stuff easier and more convenient. It also helps researchers and other people to
study trends in our society. The examples of the text messages and the
airplanes were great displays of how you can analyze data and how they
fluctuated throughout the day depending on what time it was. These futuristic
looking displays show what some of the things that our future can hold. These
would have been unheard of 50 years ago, but they are amazing glances at a
distance and are improving every year. This shows technology is improving all
the time and we have no idea what might be able to be done in the future. This
cutting age technology is showing us more about how our society behaves and can
predict more stuff for the future. We can predict every year that there will be
more text messages sent at 12:00 am on New Years than at 5:22 on another random
day. Even though some of this might seem obvious, a lot of it isn’t and can
help us understand more about humans. We learn certain behaviors that can now
be predicted of humans. The problem with this is humanity is getting so
advanced that it is ruining some parts of society. Everything has its
advantages and disadvantages and technology is included in this. An example of
this is shopping online. It is great for people to be able to shop and get
exactly what they want with the click of a button, but is making people have less
contact with others. It also is taking away jobs from local communities.
Eventually shopping could end up being almost exclusively online. Technological
advances created this and can predict that humans would rather not have to get
out and go buy something, but it does not mean that this is a positive for
society. I don’t agree with the quote given in the blog. I don’t feel like
knowing more about our society necessarily makes us feel like we have to
maintain it. This was an interesting talk and I really enjoyed the visuals
given to explain his information.
