I believe is a very powerful
statement in most contexts. When someone says that they believe, this means
they have full confidence in whatever they are going to say. For example if
someone says, I believe that it will rain today, this means that they have
confidence in their ability to predict it is going to rain. The trickiness is
sometimes it can have more of a casual meaning. Someone might ask a friend
before a big football game, “who is going to win the game”? They might respond “I
believe that Clemson will win”. This is just a casual conversation that a
person is stating a belief when they really have no insider info on who will
win the game. In a more formal setting, a worker might tell his boss that he
believes that his personal sales will go up by at least 20% in the next
quarter. This employee has insider information that he can confidently say he
believes that his sales will go up by that amount. This is how the definition
of beliefs can vary depending on the setting of the conversation. I believe is
usually a positive addition to the argument. When the person is confident in
what he believes, it can clear up information and make everything go smoother.
If the employee does not know or is not confident in his sales going up, that
is not benefitting the company as much. A person believing in their information
or themselves is almost always a positive. The times it could be negative is if
someone believes too much in themselves and their ability. If the first person
believes with 100% certainty that it is going to rain, then people he predicts
it too will probably wear a rain jacket. If it is sunny and nice outside, they
might be mad they believed in his abilities to predict the weather.
I
believe that there is an afterlife when we pass away. I think life is a time
that you live to make the world a better place. I believe there is no point in someone’s
existence if they did not try to make the world a better place for their kids.
I will do everything I can to make it to heaven when I die by being as good of
a person on this earth that I possibly can. I believe that the purpose of our
lives on earth is that every person tries to make the earth a little bit better
of a place, and collectively this will make for a better future for the
generations beyond ours.
