To Believe or Not Believe: That is the Question

In today’s society, many people “believe” in many different things. People believe in God and go to church. People also believe in silly characters related to holidays, like Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny. In all honesty, what do people believe in? What does it mean to believe? I think that people have hope or an idea with evidence, and that is what believing is all about.  Usually, many people say,  “I believe” when they have an opinion on something. When people have something they believe in, they usually have a reason to believe in that something. A person makes the statement, “I believe” and then states their supporting evidence on why they believe in this. Many people wouldn’t have beliefs if there weren’t enough supporting evidence to believe.  There are also other reasons that cause a person to believe in something. For many people, the belief in God comes from their personal backgrounds.  This is because people have to learn the idea of Jesus. Once one knows about Jesus, they can make a decision on whether or not to believe in him. If one continues to believe in him, they are making this decision on faith and hope. They hope that this actually exists.
I think it is normal for all people to believe in something. I think that believing in something gives people something to talk about and discuss with other people. Believing in something can also bring up many arguments. Some people don’t always believe in the same thing that others do, and can be offended if someone doesn’t believe the same. I think that this approach can be harmful in some cases, and helpful in others.  If a person arguing can back up why they believe one way, it helps their case in the argument. This also makes them seem more educated when arguing. If a person can’t back up why they believe a certain way, then it doesn’t help them if they mention it in an argument. If one wants to make an argument on something they believe, they need to be able to support that idea with evidence in order for it to be an effective argument.
I believe in one important thing, and that is Jesus. I believe that He came and died on the cross for me and that He is my personal Savior. I was raised to believe this, and continue it in my everyday life. I can back my beliefs up with the Bible. I can’t see Jesus, and I have never met Him, but I believe in Him because I have faith that He is real and loves me. This is a huge risk for me because I may be spending my life believing in someone who doesn’t exist. I will risk that chance, because of the faith I have.
I think that it is important for everyone to believe in something. This is what makes life interesting and what makes us human.
