There is plenty of violence still going on around the world
as of today, especially in less fortunate and developing countries such as
Honduras. A CNN reporter captured daunting and vicious images of the violence
surrounding the whole country in Latin America. Honduras now is said to hold
the despised title of having the world’s highest homicide rate. This explains
how dangerous it is to live in this country because you don’t know what to
expect and crime and murders are often occurring right beside you. If someone
were to travel to Honduras and visit the country today, they would be able to
see the true beauty of the country and the many scenic destinations around the
coast. Instead they will observe violent gangs carrying guns and knives in
their pockets always ready to attack and protect themselves. They will be able
to witness the tattooed bodies of the natives walking around without much
clothing on to get others attention and to confirm that they are part of a
gang.
The image
taken by a photographer illustrates the violence associated within Honduras and
the many individuals locked up in jail due to the various crimes they have
committed. The bars in the jail symbolize danger and the peril the whole
country is in today. It emphasizes that criminals are traversing the
countryside threatening anybody in their path. The cracks in the wall refer to
the flaws in the government and its inability to stop this violence. The
country’s institutions are poor and do not have the power to solve this issue
that has drastically increased over the years and now stands as the world’s
highest crime rate. Because the government is unable to punish the convicts,
the violence continues because the offenders believe they now have control of
the country. The chilling stare of the prisoner captured in the picture
represents the frightening situation arising in Honduras. The criminal is at
fault for killing innocent lives that would have lived for a longer amount of
time had they not lived in such of a threatening and hostile environment.
Honduras is
not the only country breaking out in violence. Several countries in Africa such
as the Congo and Zambia are struggling with the same problem and this expresses
how fortunate we are to be Americans. We do not have to tolerate the mess or
worry about getting killed everyday of the week. Being able to know that we are
safe and secure is something that other nations do not get to experience.
