Gun control or no control?

In the photograph entitled “Gun Culture in Colorado,” the sight of a woman holding a gun is the first thing the eye is drawn to. The artist is trying to make a statement with the woman holding a gun and protecting her home, and that is that anyone is capable of having a gun in today’s society. It becomes too easy for someone to get a gun, as seen by this picture of essentially a housewife. Why does a housewife need to be holding a gun and protecting her home? What does she have to fear, and why is it necessary for her to even have a gun, let alone a shotgun. The artist is trying to convey that almost everyone and anyone can get a gun today and is not necessary, or people do not know how to correctly use them, as indicated by the shotgun. If you wanted to protect your house, using a shotgun would not be the wisest decision, but anyone can get one.
The house itself demonstrates the idea further when looking at the purple flowers in the garden, the vines in the backyard; all of these things demonstrate beauty. Beauty and a shotgun do not really go hand in hand, so it makes the reader question why a woman with this beautiful home has a shotgun in the first place and what does she really have to do with it? The photographer captures this particular moment because it shows what is really going on in Colorado. You do not necessarily see a stay at home mother holding a shot gun in say New Jersey, but in some parts of the country like Colorado, it is second nature. This is a problem because its too easy for someone to get a gun and it becomes a part of society there. This picture demonstrates that in some parts of the country, things are very different than in other places and there needs to be a universal consensus on issues like gun control.
The photograph impacts the viewer tremendously because the image of a woman holding a shotgun is definitely striking. What also is interesting about this picture is the fact that the window is open, almost as the woman is going to scream or yell at anyone who gets in her way. This leads me to think that what does this woman have to fear that she is willing to shoot someone with a shotgun or yell at someone near her home. This picture demonstrates that there is something going on in Colorado that needs to addressed: why is it too easy for someone to get a gun and why are they even necessary?
