Did God Make a Farmer

These two videos are very different from each other but both have one similar point. That point is that in today’s economy, there are hardly any farmers. The first video talks about how great farmers are and shows tons of respect for them. The second video is a parody video about the state that America is in today. The first video was a great advertisement that brought back many memories, maybe so some people will think about their dad or grandfather. Even though it was about farmers, I also thought it was talking about America in general. It described such a hardworking man who would do anything to feed his family and provide in every way he could. It describes the capitalistic system that America has today, where the harder the work, usually the higher the pay.  This has been changing recently with many people wanting more socialistic reforms, and I think Dodge is showing their views on the subject of hard work and every man for himself. They are advertising to those people that have these beliefs and hoping they buy their product. When self-interest aligns with social-interest, it has been proven that the economy benefits. The weakness of this video is that it doesn’t apply to everyone, due to the lack of farmers in the world today. Not many people can relate to the farm part, but can relate to the hard work part.
The second video is an inaccurate portrayal of how farms work in today’s society. It tries to make jokes about how farms and America as a whole works today. It picks on how there are no farmers today due to the mass farms that produce most of the food. This is because this is the most efficient way to do it with so many people. It is a video poking fun of different stuff in America such as the obesity rate, which has nothing to do with farming. The argument is that America is not still running on the system that it did back in the days of farmers. America is not still working the same way, but it still has the same principals of capitalism. The strength of this video is that it uses humor to make the point. It makes fun of the famous commercial and uses humor to keep the audience entertained. This video does its purpose of making their point, but I believe it was not a good point and really did not make much sense.
