The oxford English dictionary
defines origin as the fact of being born
from a particular ancestor or race; parentage, ancestry, extraction, pedigree.
In my opinion and as the definition states,
origin and race can be similar words that may be used in different contexts to express
different things. Origin means a lot in our current cultural period. Being born
of a particular origin plays an important factor in a person’s actions. A person’s
origin allows them as well as other people to understand where it is that they
came from and how they can be identified. Being born into a particular parentage
and ancestry enables identity to be established. In today’s current cultural
period, being of a certain origin normally means simply being born of a
particular race which. For instance, being Caucasian or African American defines
one origin. Origin can also speak about being of a particular culture such as Indian
or Muslim. Origin raises questions: what race are you? Where are you from? Where
were you born? In the current cultural period as well, people see origin to be
nothing more than race and ancestry. Yet, Origin as a whole is something that cannot
be defined clearly. It means something different to all people. Since no system
exists that helps us pin point what origin a person can be of it leads us to
conclude that origin has different variations of meaning. Therefore origin is self-identified. For example
one person being asked what origin are they from may simply state the race they
are while another person may claim origin to be a location in which they were
birthed. Within my research about Batman
and his representation of a God, his origin can be seen different ways. His origin
can be that of a mystical hero in which he was simply just created for the
purpose of entertainment. His origin can
also be that of a simply idea that arose from the minds of a comic strip
author. Batman’s origin can also be of a person’s childhood. Even origin of a
person can depend on how they feel about the origin of Batman. In all, origin makes
me think about race and the Kardashinan family. This may be a meaningless statement
to claim but no one talks about where they come from in the sense of race or ancestry.
The Kardashinan family may be from a certain culture but when you think about
them you just think about how they are from money and wealth. You associate
their wealth being from the background of their very being. Origin should simply define where a person
began and the answer to that should only be justified by what the individual
feels.
