God:
a.
A superhuman person (regarded as masculine: see
goddess n.) who is worshipped as having power over nature and the fortunes of
mankind; a deity. (Chiefly of heathen divinities; when applied to the One
Supreme Being, this sense becomes more or less modified: see 6b).
God, deities, supreme beings,
these are all beliefs that mankind has had for centuries all over the
world. Different cultures and areas have
created their own religions that put faith in one superhuman identity that has
some type of power or control that mere humans did not. In the context of this definition by oxford
it states that the idea of god was used before the Pre-Christian era and the
term god was derived after then and used since.
The term is also listed as masculine, which is also how most people use
the term in regular life. When referring
to a god they believe in they often use the pronoun he throughout the rest of
the sentence. Even in the definition to
see a woman superhuman is says to see goddess.
Major religions in the world today only believe in one Supreme Being or
god, yet it is not referred to a goddess in any of them. Goddesses are more associated with ancient
religions or myths such as from the Greek culture. Another interesting part of the definition is
where is mentions this God as having power over nature and the fortunes of
mankind. All over the media especially
on social networking sites many religious individuals will post about how their
God led them through something or did something for them. Often times the acts that they are thanking
their God for are acts that have been done by themselves, by other humans, or
are events that have happened most likely from science and the earth. Yet it is their belief in their religion that
leads them to thank their god no matter what.
Since God is all-powerful some people believe that every moment in life can
ultimately be contributed to their God.
Religion is a very controversial yet major factor in many aspects of the
world today. It is used as a major
argument in many political debates even in the United States where government
and religion are supposed to stay separate.
When beliefs are so strong and are found united around the world it is
hard for it not to have such a large impact on all aspects of society. All of these arguments and decisions ultimately
lead up to what these people believe their God would want, not what they personally
would want. It’s amazing when you think
about how many acts around the world are done just because of a belief in a
supreme being that no one has ever seen, heard, or have proof of since the beginning
of time.
