God’s
Kids is an international network of orphanages that provides food, shelter,
clothes, education, and medical care to orphans in India, Liberia, Thailand,
Mexico, and the Philippines. It is an informative and interactive website
because it tells about how they are helping and contributing to orphans, and it
also allows people to donate on the website so that they can make a difference
too.
The
background is white and a light gray layered together by a blue stripe, showing
a very simple backdrop. This does not distract from their homepage that has
pictures, links, and stories. It also indicates that they want the message of
helping orphans to be the center and focal point. That is their main concern,
and they would prefer everything to point that way. The color scheme of blue,
green, and white is simple too. This does not distract from the main message as
well, and it also adds a friendly feel to it because blues and greens are
child-like colors. Blues and greens are usually used to depict the world too, and
since this organization benefits children across the world, the colors are
perfect for depicting pictures of the world on the website. By emphasizing that
they help all around the world, it allows everyone feel as if they can make a
difference no matter where they are.
The
pictures are of people of different nationalities, specifically children
though. However, by using pictures of adults too, it shows that different types
of people are contributing to the cause. The use of children, on the other hand,
tugs at the heart strings. It is interesting though that the website chooses to
not use children that appear to be in pain or that are starving. Usually this
is the tactic used because it breaks people’s hearts, and the compassion moves
them to action whether that is to go and volunteer or to donate money. By not
using pictures of suffering children, God’s Kids organization is trying to
depict that there is hope and that these children look that healthy because of
what their organization is doing for the children.
The
multiple links available on the home page show that it is easy to use. If a
website is easy to use, especially in the case of wanting donations, it will
allow people to explore without getting frustrated. With minimal frustrations,
they will be more willing to donate.
Therefore,
rhetoric is used through the color scheme, people choices in pictures, and easy
accessibility.
