The Mockery in Commercials

The first video is for all of the farmers. It shows respect towards them, and it shows how hard farmers work day in and day out. It shows dedication and how despite their struggles and suffering, they keep pushing through the day and seasons. The farmers continuously work to provide not only for their family but for this nation too.
The second video is mocking the farming industry. It describes how farming once was the heart of America, but now it has become manufactured and the labor of immigrants. However, the United States still uses farming as something to be proud of in our country despite it being about one percent of the population that is still an actual farmer.
The second video starts out with the same images and words as the first video, but the voice that is commentating is more hick, which indicates the mockery. As the second video progresses, it changes the pictures from the first video of tractors in a huge field to chickens in a manufacturing building and later on immigrants in the fields. It also uses graphs and statistics to support their claims of how farming has transformed from hard labor to machine work. The first video played off of family and the scenery rather than graphs to support its message. Based off of these differences, the first video is declaring farmers as a blessing and special gift from God because of their hard work around the clock. Whereas the second video is stating that farmers do not exist anymore because machines have taken over their jobs.
Between the lines in the second video, it can be said that America has gone downhill based off of our farming industry. As a society, we have decided to take the easy way out by the use of our technology. As seen in farming, there are no long as many hands on the field. A lot of the work is done by machines in big warehouses or by machines in the fields.
Satire is used in the second video in order to make the argument larger by decreasing the worth of farmers. The satire is putting down farmers by making it seem as if farming is barely existent, and on the rare occasion that there is a farmer, that farmer does not do much work.
The strengths of the first video are that it plays on the United States’ pride in its working ability and praises farmers for their work rather than making fun of them like is so often seen today. The weakness is that there are not many who can relate to the video since there are very few farmers left in our country.
The strengths of the second video are that it could be interpreted as funny to grab the audience’s attention, and it used graphs to make the information seem more reliable. The weakness is that it put farmers down, and since so many Americans respect farmers, they may disapprove of the message.
